"He felt indeed that this love, this blind love for his son was a very human passion, that it was Samsara, a troubled spring of deep water"(Hesse 122).
In the past, Siddhartha has felt emotions, but with his son, he feels something different. There is something about little Siddhartha that allows Siddhartha to have these strong and different feelings for him. This feeling that Siddhartha has however, is just like Samsara, a game in life in which trouble will be brought upon him. Siddhartha talks about Samsara back when he had feelings for Kamala also. The feelings that he shows when he is passionate about Kamala and is son are different and powerful to him and he knows they will only bring him trouble in the end.
This quote explains the true emotion that Siddhartha feels for his son. Siddhartha felt something very new to him when his son came to stay with him. He felt such deep love and passion, different emotions than he had ever previously felt. Little Siddhartha does not seem to feel the same emotions towards his father. Little Siddhartha seems to rebel against his father and his rules. Siddhartha tries so hard to win his son over by showing him love, but this does not get him anywhere. In the end, no matter how hard Siddhartha tries, his son will only bring trouble to him. He will not show the emotions Siddhartha wants him to. Siddhartha needs to learn that although he loves his son, he may not get that same love back as he hopes.
When reading this quote, Hesse describes Siddhartha’s feelings towards his son. After her does not allow his son to leave him, Siddhartha begins to remember what him and his father went through. Siddhartha starts to feel bad for himself and realizes that he indeed loves his son. By letting him go, tying to find him, and letting go again, Siddhartha realizes that what is going on is actually his love for his son. Siddhartha knows that he loves his son and he no longer has to put himself in agony. This is very significant because knowing that love exists Siddhartha is able to open his mind more.
